The technical, medical, economical and political development would not have been possible without it.But slicing the world into ever thinner but larger slices, without recognizing interpendence of the slices,has its limits. Suddenly we don t only explore and use, but the enormous use affects the whole system. The world seemed stable but suddenly it may not be predictable anymore. Note the melting of permafrost! Limits are passed and we face great and unknown, unforeseen change, risking slides.
